City and AI: Rethinking Urban Planning Through Data

We took part in the experiencIAs conference “City and AI: Innovation in Urban Planning”, organised by IA Lab COAM as part of the XXIII International Architecture Week in Madrid. The session explored how artificial intelligence, big data and spatial analysis are transforming the way we understand, plan and manage cities. Bringing together perspectives from the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council and urban planning practice, the discussion addressed new possibilities for territorial analysis, mobility modelling and data-driven urban planning. We shared practical experiences of how big data, spatial analysis and AI can inform urban policies and planning decisions, from the Plan de Usos de Ciutat Vella to projects exploring new ways of measuring urban liveability. The conversation also raised a fundamental question: how can we use these technologies not simply to make existing planning processes more efficient, but to develop new ways of understanding and shaping the cities of the future?
