Collaborative methodologies

Co-creating new urban visions

Today, the quantitative data approach needs to be complemented by qualitative visions of the city, coproduced and supervised by citizens. In this context, urban planning implies incorporating the perspectives of the entire population that lives and works in the areas to be transformed. They are the ones who help diagnose, who can offer solutions based on experience and, above all, they are the ones who will bring the vision to life.

Cartography

The agency of mapping

We use cartography as a support to represent the existing reality and project new visions. Our cartographies are based on data belonging to long-running historical series, which is enriched with big data, open information, and even real-time data to generate new readings of the city and the territory, which can also incorporate citizen participation as a layer. We develop cartography as an act of recognition, sharing and envisioning.

We develop both large analogue cartographies, data atlas and digital interactive maps.

Data analysis

We decode the space

A key role is played by the advances of recent decades in big data processing techniques based on data mining and artificial intelligence, which are gradually being introduced into the field of urban planning to make it possible to uncover the correlations between multiple variables and establish predictions.

We analyse the spatial component of information. We translate delocalised data into coordinates to decode spatial relations. We understand that behind the digital world there is a material world that supports it.

Tool development

Building skills

We need to find complex ways of acting on the city – from diagnosis and planning on all its scales to other strategies that involve management and the assessment of results. We develop the right tools (from data gathering apps to visualisation platforms) for measuring, analyzing, participating, simulating, planning and evaluating.

Data visualization

Making visible

We explore the visual component of information to express and support our data explorations and analysis.
We also make visible the implicit relations within the data and help to build narratives.

Data publication

Sharing and communicating

Sharing data is a crucial step that ensures transparency and dissemination in the information-based methodologies.

We publish the results of data explorations and analysis in a wide range of formats: digital interactive platforms, dashboards, exhibitions, installations, open data sets and paper reports.
